Brae Farm Harvest Notes December 8, 2023
Hi everyone,
It would be good to do a pick of bigger beetroot before the Christmas break. We should be able to find a crate of large Detroit beets.
We have a few zucchini flowers coming on each day if you'd like any for dietaries.
There's about 30 (mostly large) kohlrabi that might not be at their best by mid-January, if there's an opportunity to use them up sooner. We should talk quantities for autumn/winter soon.
There will be a small pick of Lagrima peas from the new bed this week, but I'm afraid they're going to come into full production during the break.
We'll be able to harvest a bunch or two of Genovese and Greek basil from the polytunnel. We have small quantities of cinnamon, red rubin, and sacred basil if you'd like a specific number of leaves. I'm not sure there's enough for a continuous supply yet. The shiso is also not too far off.
The orchard berries are really pumping. If they're going straight into jam, it would be good to let us know and we could harvest into larger containers, and with a bit more speed.
We'll be pulling out the early broad beans next week, and the next patch is ready to start harvesting from. I've left tips on the list but they are almost finished, and the broad bean flowers are done.
Thanks! Jo
