Brae Farm Harvest Notes September 20, 2024
Hi everyone,
There are good quantities of artichokes coming on. We can either do a smaller weekly pick or get back into a fortnightly routine if that suits the kitchen better?
I’ve added avocados, wild garlic flowers, pea tips and pea flowers to the list. The French sorrel is looking particularly good at the moment, and we have lots of really nice young leeks.
We have one more week of asparagus. We can still pick a few handfuls for dietaries into October, but not a big twice-weekly harvest from the whole patch.
The lovage patch is putting on new growth. We can start picking limited quantities of 1-2 bunches a week.
Tokyo turnips are back on the list. We’ll have our first new-season daikon and baby carrots within a few weeks.
There’s another succession of cima di rapa sizing up.
Golden turnips, mini mak daikon, and large carrots are on their way out. We still have heaps of carrots, if there are any opportunities to do a big harvest.
Thanks, Jo
